A political activist, Arun has also been an avid cartoonist. In 2007 he was arrested on charges of being a Maoist among other charges. Subsequently, he was brutally tortured and made to undergo the banned narco-analysis test twice. He completed his post-graduation in Human Rights while he was in prison. After 4 years 8 months he was released on bail. He was finally acquitted of all charges in January 2014, after which he published Colours of the Cage: A Prison Memoir. He pursuing a degree in law and researching the history of the democratic rights movement in Mumbai.
